Wild Pitch by Sloan Johnson

Homeruns Series #1
Wild Pitch
by Sloan Johnson
Wild Pitch by Sloan Johnson

Synopsis:

There’s never been any question in Sean Tucker’s mind that he’d do whatever it took to make it to the major leagues and be one of the best pitchers of his time. The day he acknowledged to himself that he was gay was also the day he vowed to stay in the closet in order to chase his dreams. The problem is, he never counted on Mason Atley.

Sean showed rookie short stop Mason Atley the ropes, both on the field and off. The two forged a friendship which continued as both of them moved through the ranks of the farm system and into the majors. Unfortunately, there’s always been one secret Mason never felt he could share with Sean. Until now.

For seven years, Sean lived with the fact that he loved a man who would never reciprocate. When Mason admits that he’s always known he’s bisexual but has never allowed himself to pursue a relationship with a man, will Sean be able to put aside his reservations about starting a relationship with the friend he’d always assumed was straight? And more importantly, will they be able to find a way to stay together when their careers keep them apart more than they can be together?

Review

 4 stars

If you read the blurb then you know what the story is about and you know it is a MM read. So with that said this is a good story and I really liked it. I loved the characters and they way the story went. It sets things up for future books and I can't wait for more of this series.

So, why not 5 stars? Well, it just didn't WOW me that much. You know that something that just makes you say "wow that was awesome". Without giving away anything, I think a little more on the sister would have been nice and some of the decisions that were made were thought about by one character but then never mentioned again and then things just popped up. I know that the author may have intended it this way or maybe didn't want the book to be thousands of pages but I still would have liked a little discussion about the one BIG decision. Who knows maybe some of my questions will be answered later on in the series. Other than that it was a really good story and if you like MM then this is one you should read.

About the Author

Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s life. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.

When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.

Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?

Now, Sloan is a tattooed mom with a mohawk and two kids. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself with a good book and forget she has somewhere to be.

Happy Release Day!!! Protecting Her by Alexis Noelle

Title: Protecting Her
Author:  Alexis Noelle
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 15, 2015

I don’t do love. Hearts, flowers, dates, girlfriends, it’s all pointless. Why tie yourself down to one person when you can have a different one every night. Sure there have been a few that have intrigued me but none ever made me think about hanging around. No one ever haunted my thoughts after I left.

Until Her.

I just wanted one night of freedom. A chance to live without prying, judging eyes. When I met him, the moment he first touched me, it’s like I was hypnotized. I got caught up in the moment and made a mistake, I never thought he would be so cold after it. No one has ever made me feel that way.

Until him.

Hunter Stone never imagined when he was assigned to guard one of the world’s up and coming stars that she would be the girl he used the night before. Now he has to be around her and make sure that she’s safe. Samantha Baker has been receiving anonymous threats, the last person she expected to walk through the door was the man that dismissed her the night before. Now she has to deal with his arrogant attitude on a daily basis, while she is still infatuated with him.

When you push love away will you be able to recognize it when it’s right in front of your face? Or will everything be ripped away before you get the chance to really live?

 3.4 stars
This was a good story. I really liked it. No need to recap you can read the synopsis so I will just jump to it and give you my opinion. So let me start with the 2 main characters. You have Sam, the rock star and Hunter, the self proclaimed asshole. I liked Sam's character and felt almost sorry for her. She was easy to relate to if I was a late teen early 20 something rock star who just wanted to be loved by her mom. Now for Hunter. Yep I hated him at first. He was cocky and arrogant and just a plain asshole manwhore.  I admit I was kind of hoping Sam would be the one to kick his ass and show him the error of his ways BUT she did one better. She showed him with kindness. By about 20% in I was falling in love with Hunter. He had the hard badass way but then he had the sweet side too that was brought out when he least expected it and only when Sam was involved. It really showed the whole "better half" of both of them.

It was well written and had me hanging on every word just waiting to see what happened next. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen there was a wonderful twist.

So what could have made it better for me and raised the stars. It left me with questions. I don't want to give anything away so I can't really say what questions but I can say maybe just a little more background on some of the important characters to the plot would have answered some of those.

It was a good story and I really enjoyed it. If you want a fast and easy read then you should check it out. I will be checking out some of her other books. This book was one of my first from her and I think she has a great style. I love when I find a new author to read from.

Alexis Noelle lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her husband, and three kids. On top a writing career, she is a full-time student and a full-time mom. She loves spending time with her kids, although she has to hide the computer from them when she is writing! She love being active and being outdoors, especially if it involves any kind of shopping.

She has always been passionate about writing. She loves to read romance books and feels like being able to lose yourself in a book is one of the more exciting aspects. The books she loves to read and write will be ones that make you feel for the characters. Ashley believes that you should have an opinion on every character in a book whether you love them, hate them, or think they are up to something.

She also believes that the most important critic is your reader, so she loves to hear from the readers. She want her fans to be open & talk to her about what they want for the characters in the story, and what they would like to see happen.

I Need You Now by Cynthia P. O'Neill

Nate Lawson was a player - dominating in the office and bedroom. Thanks to betrayal he didn’t do relationships, only one-night stands, until he met her. The one he finally connected to would be the one he’d let slip away…

His job took him everywhere to uncover criminal activity at corporate levels. But, now he was back with one focus in mind, to expose the questionable activity at his sister’s workplace and find his woman! The only problem – who was she?

Gianna Scott finally found a Dom to show her the true meaning of submission – surrendering her mind and body freely. Too bad she didn’t know who he was or if he’d return. Her life had gotten crazy with someone intent on destroying her reports at work, making her frustrated and needing release – needing him…

Nate hated answering to anyone, but agreed to go incognito, as Gianna’s assistant. They’d butt heads at every turn, but why did fighting with her leave him turned on? And why was she starring in his fantasies? Would he ever find the one that got away?

All he knew is that he needed her - Now!

  5 Stars
I LOVED this book! I didn't think anything could top book one but Cynthia has outdone herself with this one. It is my favorite of hers. I loved Nate and Gianna's "love/hate" relationship. They made me laugh and yet had a way to just make me melt at the way they truly felt about one another. It brings the characters from book 1 back and you just fall in love with them even more. The mystery of what is going on in the company is enough to get your heart pumping and while you try to figure out who is doing what. There really is no need to drag out a review because it is just simply fantastic and when you read it you will think so too. I can't wait to see what happens in book 3. I NEED book 3 NOW! ;)

COVER REVEAL: Wild Pitch by Sloan Johnson

Wild Pitch by Sloan Johnson

Synopsis:

There’s never been any question in Sean Tucker’s mind that he’d do whatever it took to make it to the major leagues and be one of the best pitchers of his time. The day he acknowledged to himself that he was gay was also the day he vowed to stay in the closet in order to chase his dreams. The problem is, he never counted on Mason Atley.

The two forged a friendship which continued as both of them moved through the ranks of the farm system and into the majors.

Excerpt:

I waited until we’d polished off the entire pizza and the dishes were rinsed in the sink before confronting Sean about what I assumed was weighing on his mind.

“So, are you still going to tell me you and Eric were just friends?” I asked, handing him a second beer. I’d switched to soda, on the off chance that he wanted to head back to the hotel. The only thing that’d make today worse was a DUI.

“We were. We are,” he protested. His gaze bounced around the room, but never in my direction.

“Bullshit. Trades are part of the game. We both know that, and yet Eric leaving managed to get into your head and throw off your game today. You can tell yourself whatever you want, but I know you better than that,” I reminded him. We’d lived together for the better part of a year, and not once was he able to pull the wool over my eyes.

“Fine,” he grumbled, taking a long draw off his beer. I thought that was the closest I’d get to an admission from him as he rubbed the back of his neck. Then he crooked a finger against the side of his chin, twisting to the left, then the right, then the left again to crack his neck. As I watched him go through his nervous routine, I regretted pushing him when he obviously wasn’t ready. Something inside of him clicked and he started to talk again. “There may have been benefits included, but really, it wasn’t more than that. Neither of us are stupid enough to get involved with a teammate, so we settled for getting cozy in the closet when the urge struck. We figured it worked pretty damn well that the two gay guys wound up in the same room. What we did was no different from the shit the rest of the guys were doing, except we didn’t have to go out and find a new trick in each town.”

“So you fucked and you were close enough that his leaving got to you, but you’re going to tell me you weren’t involved?” I shouldn’t push the issue, but I was pissed. I hated the fact that he was obviously in denial about what they meant to one another.

“Yes, Mason, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Look, just because I don’t want a relationship doesn’t mean I don’t want to get laid every once in a while,” he argued. “And not wanting a commitment doesn’t mean I want a random stranger. Eric understood that and respected it. He’s in the same boat as me and we did what needed to be done.”

“Then why the head trip? Ever since I’ve known you, you’ve sworn you’d never do anything that fucked with your game. What’s so special about him that he was worth it?” As I ranted, I thought I sounded like the scorned friend who’d never be what Sean needed. And how could I be when he had no clue that he was so much more than my just my best friend?

Sean jumped off the couch and started pacing around the room, squeezing the back of his neck. “Because other than you, he’s the only person who’s come close to understanding how much baseball means to me,” he admitted. “I knew he wasn’t cut out for no-strings sex but he was willing to settle for that for me. He’s a good guy and yeah, I’m going to miss him. There, are you happy now?”
