Sweet Spot, Homeruns #4 by Sloan Johnson

Four years ago, it took no time at all for Cody Marshall to fall for the rookie pitcher at spring training. While their lives were nothing alike, Cody understood Nick Stone’s insecurities and pain. And then… Nick left. Eventually, Cody found his own passion and landed a dream internship with the Mavericks. His life was finally turning around. And then… Nick came back.

Just like the first time they met, Cody finds himself falling for Nick. Unfortunately, Nick is still plagued by the belief that he is where he is because of his father. If they’re ever going to make it, Cody has to have to prove to Nick that his success has little to do with his name and everything to do with his drive to succeed.

Two men, both close to having everything they’ve wanted. Will they be able to find the sweet spot between dreams and desire?

 5 stars
This story was so sweet. I loved Cody and Nick. They both had their own "faults" but they knew they had made mistakes in the past and wanted to be sure they didn't make the same mistakes. They worked hard to get their relationship going and strong. It was great to read a story that the parents didn't freak out about their son being gay and never caused problems for them. I know not all people are lucky to have support when they do come out about it but I also know that some people are very lucky to have family and friends that love them no matter what. Another thing I loved about this is that we got some closure on an attack that happened in a previous book in the series. I always thought about it and was glad to see I was right in who I thought it was. :) So, if you want a sweet read about a couple that work to build a strong relationship and overcome the struggles of their pasts then this is a book for you.

Excerpt
Cam turned the stove to low and pulled up a seat next to me. “Damn, you really are touchy today. What’s going on with you?”
“I talked to him yesterday,” I admitted. I’d rather talk about this with Cam than the other guys. He was more like a really cool cousin than an overly protective big brother.
“I take it it didn’t go well?” Cam prodded. I shrugged because I didn’t have an answer for him. “Look, if he’s moved on, then you need to do the same. You’ve been doing well for yourself. Don’t wreck the life you’re creating by wishing for something you can’t have.”
If only it was so simple. Did I dare tell Cam that Nick was the one who wanted to give things another chance? He hadn’t specifically requested as much, but it was evident he’d been hoping for it by the way he reacted when I told him we couldn’t go back to what we used to be. As I drained my orange juice, I decided that Cam was the perfect person to talk about this with.
“That’s not what’s going on,” I admitted to him.
Cam set down whatever he’d been stirring and gave me his undivided attention. When I didn’t offer up the juicy details, he motioned for me to continue. “Unless you’re trying to wait long enough that everyone’s down here, you might want to start talking. I’m sure they’ll all have plenty to say to you on this topic.”
No way in hell did I want everyone to hear about my talk with Nick. Drew would tell me I needed to think long and hard before forgiving Nick, which was what I was trying to do. Bryce, who was the closest thing I had to a father at this point, would give me the same advice he had before: to forget him, because if he’d wanted me, he’d have found a way to talk to me. And Eric, well, he tried to see it from both sides, so there was no telling what he’d say. Sean and Jason would try to stay out of it, but Mason wouldn’t be able to help himself. He’d jump into the conversation and tell me Nick was a sack of shit and didn’t deserve another chance. Sean would then get into it and remind Mason that Nick wouldn’t be the first person to put his career above what he really wanted, and then the entire conversation would derail. Nope. Not what I needed to deal with today.
“Okay, so it’s like this,” I began as I filled a plate with food. I rehashed the entire conversation without interruption, other than a few grunts and nods in places.

“And what do you want?” Cam asked when I finished. I shrugged again, which brought back a memory of Nick bitching at me for not voicing my opinion. “Well, you’re the only person who can figure out the answer to that question. But if it was me, I’d be willing to hear him out. You were both really young back then. I know you’re not the same sullen, shy kid you were four years ago, and I’d bet he’s not the same either. If he’s asking you to give him another chance, I say you should go for it.”

Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s life. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.
When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.
Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?
Now, Sloan is a tattooed mom with a mohawk and two kids. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself with a good book and forget she has somewhere to be.

The Fate Series by Eversyn Wallis

You can find all 4 book in the Fate Series on Amazon
Series review

1

When I chose to leave home I knew what I was giving up. I knew I was walking away from life as I knew it and the plans that we had made.
We…us…him and I…
It’s funny to think of him in a different light…or life.
That’s what it feels like, a lifetime ago.
But I’m a different person now. I have rules and goals. And if it wasn’t for my parents' vow renewal I would have successfully evaded him for the rest of my life. This is not by choice, I can tell you that.
I just need to focus and remember the key to this weekend is avoidance…and alcohol. But if anyone can pull that off it’s me, Sidney Chandler, queen of avoiding anything that will make me feel.
It’s just one weekend, right?
One very long weekend with my family…friends…my sisters and me…together, and our nemeses, the McAllister triplets.
What could possibly go wrong?
Everything.
They say you never forget your first love, now just imagine how hard it is to forget your only.
This is going to suck.

 3 stars

Ok so started reading this after reading the blurb. I got the whole series and was ready to dive in. I sat down and I forced my way through. Actually forced my self to continue reading. I kept waiting for something big to happen and then...It wasn't big but after forcing my self to keep reading I finally got to were I was drawn in and I couldn't stop reading it. I wanted to know more and wanted to figure out what exactly was going on. When I thought I had it all figured out something happened to make me think I was wrong. I fell in love with all the characters and needed to know what happened. I was very glad I already had book two so I could go right in to it. I'm not sure the blurb really was a good fit but it did get me to read it.

Overall, it starts slow and might confuse you a little so pay attention because by about 40% it hooks you.

Book 2
We all have choices in life… paths to take… roads to follow….
It’s on those journeys that fate finds us and takes us where we need to be… Without a second glance we can be taken away from things we know… "people we love" and given a new life...
One that can change us… save us…
What would you do if fate dropped you at a crossroads? Would you go back? Or would you run like hell the other way?

 5 stars
Well this one was very interesting and to me it seemed like it should have been book 1 but anyway, it was great.

In book 2 I felt like I really got to know all of the characters better. You were given more details about their past and it built up the story that had been lacking a little something in the first.  While this book centered more on Mea and Josh you also get to know a little bit more (ok a lot more) about Morgan, Molly, Chase, Dean, and Simon. This had me laughing out loud and feeling sorry for Mea but yet knowing that she was going to make it and be happy. She had a rough life but she was strong and brave. How could this sweet, kind, amazing young lady not be loved by her evil family. That is ok though because she found all she needed in family with her new friends and roommates. Josh was so fun and carefree and you just couldn't help but laugh and smile as you read him.  You could tell he knew he loved Mea right from the start of their relationship that wasn't a relationship. LOL or was it? Yes he had a way with tricking her but it just added a bit of fun to the story.

Absolutely amazing and can't wait to jump in to book 3 :)

Book 3

For years my life was in a state of Adjournment…

Fate had constructed a plan to push me away… to save me…

There was a danger I never knew existed, one I had never sensed.

My family positioned themselves around me.

Like Hanging Pawns, they shielded me from it and I lived blissfully unaware… until now.

Now, I know there are rules to this game...

Sacrifices to be made in order to get to End Game.

What would I Sacrifice for one more moment... one last look? Touch? Kiss?

The answer is simple…

Everything.

 5 stars

Well first let me start with....this too is a cliffhanger and I am so glad I already had the whole series or I would have gone mad having to wait.

Ok so in this book we learn so much that is going on and you start to put the pieces together only don't think you know it all because it will shock you and surprise you until the very end. While you thought each book was about different people or couples maybe in this one you learn that it is all based on 3 families really with Simon and Sydney being the main people. Like I have said before I love all of the characters and you learn a little more in each book. The only thing that drove me nuts was Simon's nickname (or pet name) for Sydney. I think if a man called me Pet all the time I would flip. But that is just me and a minor detail. The suspense builds and so does the romance. Simon is right there for Sydney even though she fights to keep him at arms length. All of the pieces to this "game" are falling in place. Once again we fall more and more in love with the gang and the things that Sydney thinks will having you rolling in laughter. My favorite part is the trip to Vegas and not everything that happens in Vegas actually stays in Vegas. lol Sometimes you bring home more than you left with. (No spoilers but it involves Morgan and Chase) I think this may be my favorite book in the series so far. It was awesome but those dang cliffhangers are killin' me.

Book 4
Once upon time, there were two girls living their lives completely unaware of one another and the dangerous game they had been placed in…
Until Fate found them…
Fate saved them, made them stronger & with time, Fate brought them together to become friends rather than enemies…
Until a cruel Queen made her move, threatened the Knight,
And an innocent Pawn was sacrificed.
Now the game is in our hands…
Fate might have set us up for this… but we control the moves now…
And we have our own plan.
Revenge.

 5 stars

This is the BEST ENDING!!! No cliffhanger on this :)

This brings us to the END GAME and we know that Lady is completely crazy. The whole time I read I thought I knew what was going next to to be shocked and find out I was still confused and didn't know what was going on. I was seriously yelling "WHO IS THE BAD GUYS" and "OH MY GOD THESE PEOPLE ARE NUTS" lol The laughs kept coming along with some suspense, romance in a BIG way, and everything in between. Right now I am wishing everyone had read all of the books so I could write without spoiling anything but it is a series (yes series) that you need to read. Move this baby up to the top of your TBR list and dive in asap. I need a Madness right now (this is a drink in the series) this book has left me at a loss for works. It pulls at your emotions and I am so glad that my loved characters got their happy ever after. Go grab the whole series and read them all. I don't think you will be sorry.
